Form I: Shakespeare Project: Home

January 2022

Project Description

A digital narrative is a storytelling method that combines video, or pictures, with a soundtrack, and an audio file.  Often it relies on an existing text, such as a book or play, as the original source material from which it derives inspiration.  The narrative is focused on one aspect of that original text.  One common form of digital narrative you are already familiar with is a music video.  The lyrics serve as the source text and the pictures and elements of music–harmony, instrumentation, ect.--and video or pictures help to tell the story in a compelling way.  However, sometimes artists can take the same lyrics and translate them into very different stories.  Either way, the finished product is a kind of digital narrative.

For our project we are going to use Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors as the original text.  You are going to select at least three different scenes in the text that you think are related in telling an important story.  For example, you may want to tell the story of the relationship between Adriana and Luciana, or you may want to tell the story from Dromio of Ephesus’s point of view, or you may want to focus only on Act IV.  Once you have narrowed down your scenes, you will start to write a 500-600 word “narrative” that you will record as a voice over.  Then you will select pictures to illustrate your idea and include music to match the feeling you wish to convey.
